Mallet fingers, broken fingers, finger dislocations
Mallet finger also known as dropped finger, baseball finger, jammed finger caused by jamming an outstretched finger and rupturing an extensor tendon close to the finger tip.
The symptoms include sudden inability to extend the finger tip. In cases of isolated tendon injury without a broken bone at the finger tip, there may be no pain or swelling associated with this.
Emergent medical attention is required.
Surgery is rarely indicated if there is no broken bone at the finger tip (bony mallet).
Treatments
Treatment include splinting and immobilization, fixation with pins (K-wires) or open surgery in rare cases.
