Trigger finger
Trigger finger (stenosing tenosynovitis) is a condition where one of the fingers or thumb gets stuck in a bent position and then straightens with a snap — like a trigger being pulled and released.
This condition is not in any way related to ammunition. It was described this way based on the similarity of the “clicking, catching” finger to a gun trigger.
If triggering is severe, fingers may become locked in a bent position.
Sometimes the clicking and locking is associated with severe amounts of pain and swelling at the base of the fingers and or thumb. Sometimes “trigger fingers” occur in several fingers at once.
Treatment
Treatment of the trigger finger varies depending on the severity. Sometimes surgery is needed
